Baked Sourdough Maple French Toast
Ingredients
1 sourdough bread round cut into course cubes
8 local eggs whisked
4 cups milk
¼ cup Hippy Pilgrim Maple French Toast Vanilla Sugar plus more to shake on top
¾ cup organic sugar
½ cup heavy cream
2 tsp Hippy Pilgrim Vanilla Extract
1 tsp salt
1 stick melted unsalted butter
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Grease a 13X9 casserole dish with some of the melted butter. Save the rest for later in the recipe.
In a large bowl add eggs, whisk and then add milk, sugars, heavy cream, vanilla extract and salt.
Whisk until thoroughly combined.
Add cubed sourdough to the bowl and continue to toss and soak the cubes continuously until all cubes are thoroughly coated. Pour the entire mixture into the buttered casserole dish and allow to soak for at least an hour or even overnight.
Top with remaining melted butter, sprinkle more maple vanilla sugar and bake 40-45 minutes until browned and the top looks brown and crispy.
Serve hot with maple syrup and fresh fruit for breakfast or with whipped cream or ice cream if serving as a dessert.
